Fredrick Lee "Ted" Cannon, age 92, passed away on Sunday January 25, 2026 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. He was born in Danville, VA, son of the late Claude Cannon and Bessie Moton Cannon. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Violet Keever Cannon, as well as his siblings: Jim, Buster, and Billy Cannon.
Mr. Cannon joined the Marines at age17 and proudly served his country as a marksman in the Korean War. During his service he participated in multiple campaigns, earned the rank of corporal, and many service awards. He was a welder by trade but will be most remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, faith, and for his positive outlook on life. Although he faced his share of challenges, he chose to look for the good in every situation and was eager to offer others an encouraging word. He cherished Violet, the love of his life and wife of 45 years. He involved himself in the lives of his children and especially enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in all they did. He spent countless hours at dance recitals, ball games, and dirt-track races and attended every graduation. He ensured each had savings for college and helped support their next steps in life. He led by example and modeled the importance of hard work, perseverance, and faith in the Lord. Ted was a devoted member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Iron Station where he served in many roles. He will be remembered as a skilled gardener that loved the outdoors, Duke basketball, Redskins football and strong black coffee. His life was one well lived….full of joy, contentment and love for his family. His legacy will live on through our memories and his life will leave a lasting impression on many.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Elaine Wells (Darren), Linda O'Daniel Faulks, Susan Cannon, and Brenda York (Brian) his sister Ruth Lewis, his grandchildren: Amber Carter (James), Matthew Wells (Charlene), Michaela Wells, Bethany Merritt (Zack), Anna Wells, Andrew Wells, Dylan O'Daniel (Aimee), Montana Reiser (Ryan), and Ashley York; as well as his great grandchildren: Tucker, Nova, Blake, Grey, Bailey, Emmett, and Reece. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved.
