Glenda (Summey) Mace

Glenda Summey Mace, born October 26, 1942, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Glenda was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, William David Mace, and her son, William Dwayne Mace. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Mace; grandchildren Brandy Mace Skelly and husband Matt, Kayleigh Mace and partner Dylan Edwards, and Zak LaPrade and wife Lexi; and her great-grandson, Benjamin Skelly. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kay Waters; daughter-in-law, Andrea Mace; and her adored miniature poodle, Bella, who was a constant companion and source of comfort.

Glenda was born and raised in Mount Holly, North Carolina. When her husband was serving in the Navy, they lived on Whidbey Island, a place she spoke of with great fondness. She then made her home in Charlotte, where she lived for many years before moving to Huntersville to live with her granddaughter and family.

Glenda graduated from Belmont High School, where she was a member of the chorus. Voted Best Dressed in her class, she always looked put-together in classic attire. 

She devoted much of her life to caring for her family as a stay-at-home mother and grandmother. Family was at the center of Glenda’s life, and she was affectionately known as Nana to those that knew her best. She especially loved taking trips to the beach with her loved ones, creating memories that her family will treasure forever. She enjoyed intelligent humor, the music of Perry Como, and was an avid fan of Moon Pies and RC Cola. She was also famous among family and friends for her homemade spaghetti sauce. 

Glenda believed strongly in the importance of civic duty and voting. She proudly served for many years as the registrar at her local voting precinct, helping members of her community participate in the democratic process.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Glenda’s caregiving team for their compassion and support, especially Leondra Williams, who became an honorary member of the family through her kindness and care. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Glenda’s name to the Humane Society of Charlotte. Her life and memory will be honored in a private family gathering.
