Hazel Leigh Deason, formerly of Stanley, born May 9, 1935 was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 9, 2024. Hazel is survived by her daughter Kathi Connor and husband Keith of Gastonia. She was a special "Maw Maw" to her grandchilden Matthew Brett Connor and wife Jenn of Ft. Mill, SC, and Taylor Leigh White and husband Heath of Gastonia. Hazel was blessed with four great grandchildren Nolan White, Landon White, Madison Connor and Oliver Connor. She was preceded in death by her parents James Richard and Susie Taylor Deason. She is also survived by her sisters Margaret Hayes and Wanda Spencer, and a brother Richard Deason and numerous Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Janice Lemmond, Louise Deason, Charmaine Riley, William Deason and Luther Deason.
Hazel retired from the Talon Zipper Plant in Stanley after 43 years of service.
Hazel was known for her loving nature, kindness, thoughtfulness, beautiful smile and blue eyes. She was a member of Common Ground in Stanley where she dearly loved her Church Family. She was an avid NASCAR fan.
The family will receive friends at the Common Ground campus of First United Methodist Church in Stanley on Sunday January 21st beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Brian Elwell officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont. The family extends special thanks to Pastor Brian Elwell, Susie Deason, Hospice of Gaston County, and the staff of the Robin Johnson House in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Common Ground, 5481 Hickory Grove Road, Stanley NC 28164 or Hospice of Gaston County, 2240 Remount Road, Gastonia, NC 28054.
