Helen Lucille (Smoot) Hayden

Helen Smoot Hayden, age 100, passed away peacefully on Monday April 11, 2022 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.  She was born in Keysville, VA daughter of the late Granville and Daily Smoot.  Helen and her husband Bennie  owned and operated J.W. Squire Floor Fashion Center in Danville, VA for many years. Helen was a longtime active member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville, VA.  Helen and Bennie Hayden were married on November 9, 1946 and cherished 68 years together until his passing.  In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her brother Granville Smoot Jr.  Those left to cherish her memory include her children Robert Hayden (Jan) of Portland, OR; Elizabeth Hayden of Atlanta, GA; Laura Keistler (Gregg) of Clover, SC; a brother Donald Smoot (Charlotte) of Seven Lakes, NC and her grandchildren: Benjamin Hayden, Caroline Hayden, Sarah Keistler Jones (Austin) and Anna Keistler.  A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday May 21, 2022 at South Point Baptist Church in Belmont.  The family will receive  friends beginning at 12:00 p.m. also at the Church.  A service will also be held at Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville, VA on Saturday June 4th, 2022.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Ascension Lutheran Church: 314 West Main St, Danville, VA 24541, to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital: 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or to Disabled American Veterans at www.DAV.org.
