Hoyt Bynum Obituary

Hoyt Bynum was born June 9, 1929 to Blair and Viola Bynum; he was raised in Alexis/Iron Station, NC. He passed away on May 22, 2025. Hoyt was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Safarah (Faye), infant son Henry Lee, and siblings Gloria Stroupe, Wanda Bynum D’Adario, Daphna Bynum, James Bynum, and Jerry Bynum. He is survived by his children S. Pinkney Bynum (Natalie), Pete Bynum (Gail), and Melinda Bynum Bumgarner (Emmitt); brother Ronnie Bynum; eight grandchildren (Summer, Josh, Calah, Zack, Karly, Will, Emilee, Aubrey); and nine great-grandchildren. He served in the 28th Infantry during the Korean conflict. A skilled storyteller, Hoyt was cherished by many who gathered to hear his tales. He was a lifetime member of the American Dairy Goat Association, an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved camping with family. He spent most of his career with Ervin Construction, building homes throughout the Charlotte area. His enduring devotion to Alexis Baptist Church and his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ shaped his life. His deep faith, kindness, and generous spirit will be fondly remembered.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Alexis Baptist Church in Alexis with Pastor Scott Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, also at the Church.
