Hugh Edward Penson

Hugh Edward Penson, 88, of Mount Holly, passed away at home on Monday, November 22, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Forest City, North Carolina to the late Madge Scruggs Penson and Boyd Penson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jay Downey and his brother Nelson Downey. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lola Rust Penson; his children, Cathy Lynn Penson and Rhonda Ann Penson; his granddaughter, Aleigha Mae Wheeler; and his brother, Jerry Downey and his wife Carol. The family will greet guests from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly. A service to celebrate his life will be held immediately following at 2:00, also at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Gaston Hospice for their care and compassion for Mr. Penson. Entombment, with military honors, will conclude at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum in Mount Holly. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association - Rapid Response Team at 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28217.
