Iris Marie (Jenkins) Barger

Iris, born on January 6, 1957, in the gentle embrace of North Carolina, departed this world on August 13, 2026, at Caromont Hospital after a courageous battle with heart disease. Her journey through life was marked by love, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to her family and faith.

Iris was predeceased by her beloved mother, Viola Jenkins Chastain, and her cherished siblings: brothers William, Randy, and John Jenkins, and sisters Kay Underdown, Ann Walker, and Sadie Sanders. She also mourned the loss of two nieces and three nephews, leaving behind a legacy that intertwined love with memories.

Iris is survived by her children, Shannon Price and wife, and Paul Price and wife, who carry forward her spirit of kindness and strength.
Her grandchildren, Neveah, Natalie, and Jeffrey Price, were the light of her life, and she cherished each moment spent with them.
Her professional journey took her through years of dedicated service at Parkdale Mills until its closure, after which she found a new family and purpose as a manager at Dollar Tree. Iris’s work ethic and commitment were evident in every role she undertook, always leading with integrity and care.

Though not an active member of a church, Iris’s devout Christian faith shaped her life’s path. Her love for the Lord shone brightly in her actions, and she lived each day as a testament to her beliefs. Her porch was a sanctuary where she would sit, surrounded by nature, reflecting on the beauty of life and the importance of those she held dear.

Iris possessed an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cherished. Her words were a blend of honesty and love, offering advice with a gentle hand and a caring heart. She was a “no-nonsense” person, yet her warmth was felt deeply by anyone who crossed her path. Her disciplined approach to raising her sons instilled values of love and strength, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.
In honor of Iris’s memory, the family kindly prefers donations to be made in her name to a charity of your choice, celebrating her life of giving and grace.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 1, 2026 in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service on Tuesday also at the Funeral Home.  Burial will  follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.
