Iris Naomi (Nixon) Hornbuckle

Iris Nixon Hornbuckle, age 94, passed away on Sunday October 20, 2024 at Terrace Ridge Assisted Living in Gastonia.  She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late George and Sue Nixon.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Hal Hornbuckle, her daughter Iris Helms, a sister Polly O'Donohue, as well as her granddaughter Jessica Helms.  

To friends and family she as better known as "Nehi" which was her nickname since she was a child.  She spent her career as a bookkeeper, beginning with Massey Hardware in Mount Holly, then Hornbuckle & Associates, and finally at Pine Island Country Club.  In her spare time, she loved to square dance, and also enjoyed traveling after her retirement.  She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Holly.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her son Tim Hornbuckle (Ginger); her grandchildren: Mandy Beaudry (Mark), Jennifer Hornbuckle (Patrick Lewalter), Amy Greene (Josh), Alisha Pruette (David), Katherine Taylor (Patrick), and Adam Helms (Taylor), as well as her great grandchildren: Caleb Hornbuckle, Gavin Beaudry, Aubree Greene, Gabe Greene, Chloe Greene, Savannah Pruette, and Mckenna Helms.  

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday October 26, 2024 in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.  

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Terrace Ridge Assisted Living in Gastonia for their care and support over the last two years.
