James Monroe Gold

James Monroe Gold, 93, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House. Mr. Gold was born in Cleveland County, son of the late Marvin Monroe Gold and Laura Roxanne Brooks Gold. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Ella "Tommie" Sisk Gold, Peggy Bowen Gold, and Donnis Canipe Gold; and his sister, Ruby Bates. Mr. Gold was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Mr. Gold is survived by his children, Marvin Gold (Sherri) and Melissa Campbell (Phillip); his grandchildren, Alex Gold (Angela), Laura Roach (Tyler), and Lee Campbell (Ashleigh); his great-grandchildren, Ella, Sophie, Brigman, and Jolie; his sister, Mary Ann Greene; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gold enjoyed growing up on the family farm. He was drafted into the Army and was proud of his military service. He was employed by Duke Power for over 35 years. He enjoyed his work and cherished his many friendships established there. Outside of work he enjoyed learning about historical events, especially WWII. He was always active in his church, serving in various aspects of leadership. Mr. Gold cherished his family and beamed with pride for the joy experienced in his great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Gold will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
