James Cecil King, Jr. died at home on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. He is now present with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Cecil was born on December 15, 1938, in Charlotte, to Margaret Alley King and James Cecil King, Sr. of Kingston Ave. in Wilmore. The family were very active members of Calvary United Methodist Church where Cecil became a Sunday School teacher to teens as a young man. Cecil graduated from Central High School and Duke University in 1963, with a business degree. While at Duke, Cecil was selected as a "walk-on" basketball player. He started his own real estate business, "Twin Real Estate", in honor of his favorite baseball team, the Minnesota Twins. Cecil married Nona Thompson in 1987, the year the Twins won the World Series. He loved baseball, classical music, hymns, scripture, and many friends at both Pritchard Memorial Baptist, and First Presbyterian Church, where he was a devoted member. In addition to his wife, his remaining family includes Cynthia Thompson Mates, Vincent Mates, and Colin Daniel Mates of Kings Mountain, NC.
