Janice Nantz Thompson, 78, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late Ellis Lander Nantz and Christine Carswell Nantz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Roger Lee Calaway and Rodney Joe Calaway; and her brother, Jimmy Ernest Nantz.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, Robert Neal Thompson; her son, Charlie Joe Calaway, Jr.; her grandchildren, Holly Calaway (Kim), Joe Calaway (Erica), Casey Calaway, Marci Baker (Matt), Chelsea Calaway, Jake Calaway, Keilan Stroupe, and Eastyn Miller; 6 great-grandchildren; her sister, Jackie Hudson (Dan); her brother, Richard Nantz (Debra); and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Thompson had a passion for bingo and could often be found with a card in her hand, and a smile on her face. Her love ran deep, her wit stayed sharp, and her presence will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Thompson will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. The family will greet guests from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on the day of the service, at the funeral home.
