Mr. Jerry Wilson York, 80, was surrounded by his loving family when he stepped joyfully into his heavenly home on Sunday, June 4th, 2023. Jerry was born to Amos and Gladys York in Monroe, North Carolina August 7, 1942. He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1960 and soon started his career at Gerdau Ameristeel where he was a loyal employee for 47 years. Jerry was a dedicated member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Music Director, Adult Choir Director, Soloist and was lead singer for The Faith Baptist Quartet for over 50 years. His church family recently honored him for his years of service with a Jerry York Appreciation Day. His beautiful singing voice has blessed many over the years and his faith was a wonderful source of inspiration for those fortunate enough to know him. When Jerry wasn’t busy doing for others, he enjoyed playing golf, photography and was a talented calligrapher and artist. He also LOVED making personalized birthday and anniversary cards for his friends and family. He made sure everyone he knew received one on their special day. Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Amos York, stepfather and mother, Truman and Gladys Henderson. Brother-in-law Barry Friday. Sisters-in-law Patricia Alexander and Jean Howell.
Left to cherish Jerry’s memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Sudie York, children Shana (John) Biggerstaff, Chris York and Carrie Cox, Patricia (Randy) Williams. Siblings, Sharon Friday, Mo (Linda) York. Nephew, Craig Friday and Lauren Milton. Grandchildren, Johnathan Biggerstaff, Emily Biggerstaff, Sarah York, Brandon Ritter, Corey York, Caroline York, Samantha Williams, Mick Williams, Cheyanne Cox, Kelsey Cox, and beloved family dog, Bandit.
Please join us to celebrate Jerry’s life on Friday, June 9th 2023, at Faith Baptist Church, 5194 Old Plank Road, Iron Station, NC. Visitation will start at 11:30 a.m. with the service following at 1:00 p.m. Jerry will be laid to rest in the church cemetery immediately following the service.
