Jill Bentley Stroupe was born on December 9, 1926, and passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Stroupe Jr. They lived in Stanley, North Carolina all their lives and were members of Stanley United Methodist Church until after his death on February 7, 2011, when Jill moved to Rock Hill South Carolina to be near her daughters. For many years they called Lake Junaluska their second home where they made many friends and had great memories with the family. She had a wonderful life and truly enjoyed every day to the fullest. She was a 38-year breast cancer survivor. Jill had a great sense of humor and entertained her family and friends with her quick wit.
Jill loved her family and is survived by her two daughters, Rebecca Thompson (Ed) and Elizabeth Cubbage. She was known as Granny to her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom adored her. She will truly be missed not only because of the joy she brought to each of us but also because of her great Christian beliefs and love for each other that she instilled in all of us.
A private family graveside celebration of her life will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations are to be sent to Lake Junaluska by visiting www.lakejunaluska.com (or by mail to Lake Junaluska Assembly Inc., The Office of Development, PO Box 67, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospitals by visiting www.stjude.org.
