Jimmie Dean Shields, age 69, passed away on Saturday April 18, 2026. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Jimmie Shields and Jewell Allen. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Richard Allen.
Jimmie Shields was a man whose life was defined by love, loyalty, and a passion for the simple joys that brought people together. He passed away leaving behind a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Cherokee Casino was a favorite place to be and his unwavering dedication to the North Carolina Tar Heels was like no other, as was his enthusiasm for all sports. He was one of the best coaches with Stanley and Mt.Holly Optimus football leagues. Always watching a game cheering on his favorite teams, you could always count on Jimmie to bring energy and excitement to the moment. Beyond sports, Jimmie found freedom and peace on the open road. Riding his motorcycle was a part of who he was. It was where he felt most alive, embracing the wind, the journey, and the sense of adventure that defined his spirit. But above all else, Jimmie loved his family. They were his greatest pride and his constant source of strength. He showed his love not just in words, but in the way he lived—through laughter, support, and the countless memories he created with those closest to him. Jimmie will be remembered for his kind heart, his passion for life, and the way he made others feel valued and loved. Though he may no longer be with us, his spirit rides on—in every game watched, every mile traveled, and every moment shared with his family.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Lorie Rogers (Chad), Michael Shields, and Michelle Barbee, his sister Darlene Calhoun (Earl); his grandchildren: Alex Rogers (Marley), John Michael (Chancey), Jennifer Barbee (Austin), Gavin Rogers, and Nathaniel Rogers, as well as his great grandchildren: Lawson, Aurora, and Banks.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday April 24, 2026 in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly with Pastor Richard Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from beginning one hour prior to the service on Friday also at the Funeral Home.
