Jimmy Duane Barnes, 74, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Mecklenburg County, son of the late William Norton Barnes, Sr. and Betty Jean Armstrong Barnes. Mr. Barnes was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam. He enjoyed playing softball, fishing, coaching, playing billiards, and especially eating.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan Abernathy Barnes; his daughter, LaTisha Pappas and her husband, John; his son, Rusty Barnes and his wife, Katie; his grandchildren, Zach Pappas, Alicia Pappas, and Paisley Barnes; his siblings, Bill Barnes and his wife, Brenda, Rhonda Murphy and her husband, Luther, and Jean Seay and her husband, Billy; his aunt, Becky Gillen; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Barnes will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2022, at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. Pastor Eddie McGinnis will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The family requests that all in attendance be masked.
