Joan Morgan Obituary

Joan Bynum Morgan, age 89, passed away on Thursday September 10, 2026 at Stanley Total Living Center.  She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late Loyd and Ruby Putnam Bynum.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter Robin Heffner, and her sister Billie Jean "Chub" Bynum.

She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and beloved Maw Maw whose greatest joy was her family.
Joan was known for her warm heart and the love she showed through the things she did for those around her. She especially loved cooking for her family and gathering around the table with the people she loved. She enjoyed taking trips to the mountains and the beach, going out to eat, and shopping—especially when she could find matching outfits.
Joan had a creative and playful spirit. She enjoyed arts and crafts, doing puzzles, coloring, bowling, and throwing horseshoes. She also had a love for rock and roll music, like Elvis Presley and The Beach Boys.

Joan dedicated more than 40 years of her life to working at A&E before retiring. Her strong Christian faith was an important part of who she was. She attended The Lighthouse Church for as long as she was able, finding comfort and fellowship in her faith and church family.
Above all, Joan cherished her family. Her love, laughter, strength, and the memories she created with those she loved will remain in their hearts forever.
Joan leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and countless memories that will be treasured by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to live on through the family she loved so dearly. The family would like to thank the staff at STLC for all the love and care they gave to Joan. In lieu of flowers consider making a donation to the Alzheimers Association.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Maxine Rogers (Curtis), and Tabatha Baldwin (Brian). her grandchildren: Connie Lowery, Brandy Guy, Stacey Heafner, Mary Boruta, Abby Anthony, Erica Cabrera, and Brian Baldwin, Jr.; her great grandchildren: Marc Guy, Jr., Rylee Heafner, Caleb Guy, Kyndal Heafner, Logan Anthony, Eliana Lowery, William Boruta, Lilly Baldwin, Cameron Cabrera, and Ian Boruta, as well as her special cousin Starr McCorkle.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday September 15, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.  The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service on Tuesday also at the Funeral Home.  Burial will be private.
