John Rhyne Finger

John Rhyne Finger, age 87, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.  He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Paul Alton Finger, Sr. and Sara Kathryn Rhyne Finger.  

Mr. Finger was a 1955 graduate of Dallas High School and a 1962 graduate of Lenior Rhyne College, as well as a 1970 graduate of UNC Charlotte with a Masters in Education.  He was a retired Major from the USAF and the NC National Guard.  He was a faithful and active church member of First Presbyterian Church in Dallas for more than 50 years where he taught Sunday School.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 1/2 years Marjorie Russell Finger; his sons John Michael Finger , and David Ryan Finger (Carmen); his daughter Cristie F. Detter (Dennis); his siblings: James Henry Finger, and Sara Virginia Torres; six grandchildren: Cody Finger, Justin Finger, Matthew Finger, Travis Avery, Michelle Detter, and Dusty Detter, as well as 4 great granddaughters: Luna, Claire, Riley, and Blair.  

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday January 18, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church in Dallas.  Inurnment will follow in the Church Cemetery on College St. in Dallas.
