John Reynolds Goodnight

John Reynolds Goodnight, 84, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021. He was born in Iredell County, NC, son of the late Jay Wilson Goodnight and Nell Reynolds Goodnight. Mr. Goodnight was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War   where he served as a 1st class airman and attended jump school with the 101st Airborne. He was retired, after 30+ years, from the NC Division of Motor Vehicles.  Mr. Goodnight served as a deacon at Centerview Baptist Church and was also a 32nd degree master mason at the Long Creek Lodge #205.  He was also a member of the Scottish Rite at the Charlotte temple where he and his father were actively involved in degree work.  John was a lifetime member of the NRA.  He was also a member of the Catawba Heights Volunteer Fire Department station # 33 and served as president of the Board of Directors at Community Volunteer Fire Department Station #32.

Mr. Goodnight is survived by his wife of 49 years, Libby Wyatt Goodnight; his children, Vanise "Neci" Goodnight, Craig Goodnight, and Jay Goodnight and his wife, Samantha; his grandson, Johnathan Goodnight; his sister, Jaynelle Oehler and her husband,  Rev. Dr. George; his niece, Emily Oehler; and his nephew, Rev. Philip Oehler Sr.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Goodnight will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday October 2, 2021 at Centerview Baptist Church in Belmont.  The family request that everyone in attendance wear a mask.
