John Franklin Laughlin

John Franklin Laughlin, age 89, formerly of Belmont, went to his eternal home on Tuesday May 24, 2022.  He was born in Rutherfordton, NC to the late Clyde and Sue Laughlin.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Thelma Laughlin, his son David Laughlin, his sister Dorothy Chandler and a brother Jack Laughlin.  John owned and operated Armstrong Coal & Oil in Belmont for many years.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He loved to fish and hunt (especially with his nephew Bobby).  Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Mamie, his daughters:  Kay Carpenter (Ken) of Mount Holly, Debbie Jones (Marty) of Belmont and Joyce Laughlin of Mount Holly.  5 grandsons Brian Carpenter (Jennifer), Brent Carpenter (Alyssa), Michael Laughlin, Danny Laughlin and Alan Pearson as well as six great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren.  A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday May 28, 2022 at Pineview Cemetery in Mount Holly.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:15 on Saturday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital:  501 St. Jude PL.
