John Larry May, age 75, passed away on March 14, at the Charles George Veterans Hospital in Asheville, NC. He was born in Gaston County, son of John May, Jr. and Alice Ruth Miller May. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Brenda May Webb and Jeannie May Bury and a brother Ricky May.
Larry Proudly served as a Specialist in the Army and defended our freedom during the Vietnam War. After his tour in Vietnam, Larry became a dedicated Police Officer working in many different departments in Gaston County. Larry was also a Master Mason with Gaston Lodge 263 in Dallas, NC.
Larry was a Certified Scuba Diver. He loved history and could answer almost any question about WWII. His hobbies included but are not limited to building Military Models, Slot Cars, Antique Clocks, Accutron Space View Watches, Tools and Cars, Cars, Cars. Larry loved animals of all kinds, but especially his two Siamese Cats. The two Boogies…Little and Big.
He is survived by his dedicated wife of 54 years, Adrian Arrowood May, a brother Randall May (Lisa) and many nieces.
A Celebration of life will be held in the Worship Center at Real Life Church, Stanley, NC. Saturday, March 28 at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers or Friends for Animals - Humane Society Burke County.
