Johnnie “John” Edward McNabb, III, (35) of Bessemer City, NC, passed away December 20, 2023, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born in Mecklenburg County on April 28, 1988. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Billy “Bill” Max Mason, Carolyn Arnold Brittain, and Johnnie McNabb, Sr.; his great-grandparents, William and Rachel Arnold, and Hubert and Mary Jo Mason; and his sister, Jessica McNabb. John graduated Class of 2006 from East Gaston High School. He was an equipment painter at Xylem, Inc. in Fort Mill, SC. He spent his life as an auto body painter. John loved spending time with his children and loved them more than anything. He was a huge sports fan of football, baseball, racing, and NASCAR. He pulled for the Green Bay Packers, Tennessee Volunteers and Atlanta Braves. John had an appreciation for old cars. Music was a huge part of his life. Some of his favorite singers were George Jones, Waylon Jennings, and Hank Williams Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Colton McNabb of Lincolnton, Skylaar Summers of Plant City, Florida, and Wyatt McNabb of Gastonia. His mother, Leslie Mason Lykins and husband Darrell of Gastonia; his father, Johnnie McNabb, Jr. of Bolivia, NC; his fiancé, Jamie Summey, and bonus children, Madilyn Culpepper and Easton Poovey; his grandmother, Beulah McNabb of Mt. Holly, bonus grandmother, Vickie Mason; and sister, Joni McNabb of Gastonia; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A service to celebrate John's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly on Friday, January 26, 2024. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. The family will greet guests from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
