Joyce (Cope) Reid

Joyce Cope Reid, 78, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late Charles H. Cope and Gladys Jones Cope. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Cope. Mrs. Reid was a graduate of Stanley High School and Sacred Heart College. She was a devout Christian and member of First United Methodist Church of Stanley. As a second grade teacher, she had a long career of educating young children at Springfield Elementary School.

Mrs. Reid is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ted Garrison Reid; her daughter, Michele Devinney; her son, Kirk Reid; her grandchildren, Brent Devinney, Cory Devinney, Megan Brown, Bella Reid, and Evan Reid; 5 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Doris Rhyne and Jewel Carruthers; and a number of nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Reid will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at First United Methodist Church (Common Ground Campus), Stanley. She will lie in repose from noon until the service hour, at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Stanley Cemetery.
