Judy Kirby Lewis Hudson, 80, passed away peacefully at her home on March 7, 2025.
Judy was born in Charlotte, NC on September 21, 1944, to William W. Kirby, Jr. and Mozelle Boyles Kirby. She was a 1962 graduate of Cocoa High School in Cocoa, FL. After graduation, she married the love of her life, James R. Lewis, and started a family.
She initially worked in many different jobs and eventually retired from USAir, after many years of service.
Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her beloved family. She especially loved spending time with her precious great-grandsons who, in her words, she loved "to the moon and back" and were the "light of her life".
Judy was a faithful member of Tuckaseegee Baptist Church for many years, serving as WMU Director, singing in the choir, and teaching Training Union. In her later years, she was a member of Second Baptist Church, Mount Holly.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James R. Lewis, and her second husband, Samuel Hudson. She is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly Lewis Stallings (Bruce), and Kristin Lewis Hovis (Scott); her grandson, Bradley Stallings; her granddaughters, Heather Hovis, Sierra Stallings Calhoun (Hunter), and Savannah Hovis; and great-grandsons, Chandler Hovis, Colton Calhoun, and Cashton Calhoun. She is also survived by her brother, William W. Kirby, III (Katie) and family; and Carolyn Breyare, who was her best friend and soul sister of 52 years.
Her family is thankful to know that she is fully healed and reunited with her loved ones in Heaven, in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The family especially thanks the wonderful nurses and CNAs at Carolina Caring, who have provided exceptional and compassionate care over the past year.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Second Baptist Church, Mount Holly. Pastor Roger Overton will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the East Gaston High School Care Fund in her memory. Donations can be made through the front office of East Gaston High School or by mailing checks designated to the Care Fund to 1744 Lane Rd., Mount Holly, NC 28120. Donations may also be made to Second Baptist Church, 740 Rankin Ave., Mount Holly, NC 28120.
