Larry Abernathy Obituary

Larry Dean Abernathy, 71, of Gastonia, passed from this life on Saturday, January 8, 2022, and is now in the presence of his loving Lord and Savior. He was born in Gaston County to Ozell Smith Abernathy and the late Lloyd "Jack" Abernathy. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Abernathy. Larry was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of Goshen Free Will Baptist Church. Larry loved life and he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great granddaughter. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Dot Abernathy; his daughter, Becki Abernathy Toole and her husband Matt; his grandchildren, Zachary Toole and his wife Erin, Chase Toole and his wife Samantha, and Chelsea Toole; his great granddaughter, Amelia Grace Toole; and his brother, Ronnie Abernathy. The family will greet guests from 11:00 until 12:30 Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Goshen Free Will Baptist Church, 1300 W. Catawba Avenue in Mount Holly and any other time at the home. A service to celebrate his life will be held immediately following at 12:30, also at the church. Interment with military honors will conclude at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly.
