Lewis Gary Johnson, a man who found his greatest peace in the woods, on the water, and in the soil, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, the age of 75. He was a lifelong outdoors man who loved to hunt in the early morning quiet, cast a line into still waters, and tend to his garden with care and patience. These were the places he found meaning, where he felt the most at home. Though he wasn't always the warmest or most expressive man, he showed love in the ways he knew how - through action, through routine, and by simply being present in his own quiet way. His hands, rough from work and weather, were more familiar with tools than tenderness, but they built a life and provided in ways he understood best.
Mr. Johnson leaves behind his children, Patrick Johnson (Holly), Sherry Nicks (Terry), and Stephanie Sizemore (Joe); his grandchildren, Austin Johnson, Nick Johnson, Dixie Johnson, Elijah Nicks (Lauren), Megan Eller, Gracie Nicks, and Brad Johnson (Candace); his great-grandchildren, Caroline, Addison, Levi, Kaceton, and Waylon; his sisters, Diane Johnson and Kathy Kirkpatrick; and a number of nieces and nephews, who each carry a piece of his story; the value of hard work, the beauty of stillness, and the lessons found in nature.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Alexander Johnson; his parents, Lewis William Johnson and Irene Shuler Johnson; and his siblings, Larry Johnson and Marion Ledford.
