Linda Irene (Payne) Grigg

Linda Payne Grigg, 82, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late John Alexander Payne, Sr. and Girlie Stilwell Payne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Cherry Payne, Joyce Duncan, and Eddie Payne.

Mrs. Grigg was a member of Alexis Baptist Church. She became a Christian at a young age at Pearl Baptist Church, where she taught children's Sunday School, sang in the choir, helped with Girls In Action (GA's), and on many other committees. From there she was a member at several other churches where she taught the youth group and had in-home, adult Bible study groups.

She was a caring and giving friend to all and loved helping others. She loved her flowers, and working in the yard, she especially loved mowing the grass until she could no longer. Here greatest joys in life were watching her grandson, Steven play baseball and softball, great-grandson Mason race dirt bikes, and great-granddaughter, Paisley, dance at Rhonda's School of Dance (RDS). She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She considered everyone friends and family and was loved by all.

Mrs. Grigg is survived by her husband of 57 years, Boyd Steve Grigg; her daughter, Angie Gales (Jamie); her grandson, Steven Gales (Lesley); her great-grandchildren, Mason and Paisley; her siblings, John Payne, Jr. (Haroleen), Lonnie Payne, and Sandy Lindsey (Steve); her sister-in-law, Marilyn Payne; a number of nieces and nephews; special hairdressers, Revonda, Rachelle, and Kayla; and her granddog, Dolly.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Grigg will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Alexis Baptist Church, Alexis. Pastor Scott Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
