Lois “Nook” Abernathy Summey went home to be with her Lord on February 23, 2021, making her transition peacefully at home. Lois was the daughter of Eli and Annie Brown Abernathy of Stanley. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ollie Mae Helms and Mary Katherine Boggs; four brothers, Bill, Sonny, Mick, and Don Abernathy. Lois is survived by her husband of 70 years, Gertis L. Summey, Jr., two sons; Randy Summey (Carolyn) and Davey Summey (June), five grandchildren; Barry Summey (Kristy), Derek Summey (Alisha), Jamie Crisp (Michael), Josh Dawson (Allison), Caleb Dawson, 9 great grandchildren, siblings; Bob (Jane), Ben (Marie), Becky Shelton. Lois worked for 42 years at J.P. Stevens in Stanley and was member of First United Methodist Church in Stanley for 68 years where she loved serving the Lord as a youth leader, on various committees, singing in the choir and a member of circle #4. She was a remarkable cook and lived to serve her family and friends countless meals. Her specialties were homemade biscuits and chicken and dumplings. She loved working with Gert in the garden, watching Duke Basketball and the Braves and never missed an event that her children or grandchildren participated in. She was loved by all who knew her and her love will live on in the lives of her family. A service to celebrate her life will be held at Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church, Stanley, NC on Saturday, February 27 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Noel Sweezy and Dr. Danny Penny officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:30 at the church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens. Memorials can be to First Methodist Church 5481 Hickory Grove Rd.
