Luther Samuel "Buddy" Workman, age 80, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday September 30, 2026 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Howard Workman and Mary McGaha Workman. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Fred Workman, Mary Waters, and Sandra Phillips.
He was best known as Buddy, Paw Paw, or Daddy to those who knew and loved him the most. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him. Faith was at the center of his life all the way until the end. He was a longtime active member of Way of The Cross Baptist Church in Mount Holly where he faithfully served as Deacon for many years. He retired as a maintenance manager and was known as a jack of all trades who was always willing to help his fellow church members or neighbors. He loved working on projects and staying busy especially after his retirement. In his spare time he could be found at the YMCA or on the water fishing.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years Freda Workman; his daughter Tonya Faulkner (Larry), stepdaughter Angela Fields; grandchildren: Sandra Terry, Chelsea Johnson, Jacquelyn West (Jordan), Whitley Austin, Derrick Fields, and Layla Fields; four great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026 at Way of The Cross Baptist in Mount Holly with Pastor Bobby Meeks officiating, 302 Lanier St. Mount Holly, NC 28120. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service on Monday also at the Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Way of the Cross Baptist Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
