Margaret Draxie (Disney) Gooch

Margaret Draxie Gooch, age 72, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday June 24, 2026 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas.  She was born in Stanford, KY, daughter of the late John Disney and Ruth Hunter Disney.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Doris Disney, Oris John Disney, Howard Wilson Disney, and James Edward Disney.  

Born and raised on a farm in Stanford, KY, she developed a love for animals of all kinds at an early age that lasted her entire life.  She was saved at the age of 12 at Stanford Baptist Church in Kentucky and would go on to marry the love of her life whom she met in elementary school in the same Church on April 27, 1974.  She spent her career working as a lab tech at various facilities including Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford, KY, Lexington Clinic, Kaiser Permanente in Charlotte, NC, and finally retiring from UNCC health center.  She loved her work and especially enjoyed sharing her faith in Jesus Christ with her colleagues.  She was an active member at Stanford Baptist Church in Stanford, KY, Northview Baptist Church in Lexington, KY, as well as Oakhurst Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC where she served as a youth leader and Sunday School teacher for many years.  She was most recently a member of 2nd Baptist Church in Mount Holly, NC.  In her spare time, she found happiness while gardening and taking care of her many cats and dogs who she adopted over the years.  She was affectionally known as "Nana" to her three grandchildren who were her pride and joy.  

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 52 years Samuel Gooch, her daughter Sara Tyler (Greg Jr.); her grandchildren: Gregory Marr Tyler III, Samuel Benjamin Tyler, and Lillian Bennett Tyler; her sister in laws: Betty Jean Gooch (Bill Smith), Sherrill Disney, and Judy Disney, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday June 28, 2026 at 2nd Baptist Church in Mount Holly with Pastor Roger Overton, and Rev. Bill Wright officiating.  The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service on Sunday also at the Church.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Robin Johnson Hospice House, or to 2nd Baptist Church.
