MARGARET SMITH MAUNEY, 89, died September 1, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late John Beatty Smith Sr. and Bertha Pruitt Smith. She was preceded in death by her husbands Frank McClure and Paul T. Mauney, a sister Shirley Rathers and a brother John B. Smith, Jr. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Stanley where she had served as church secretary from 1960 – 1993. Survivors include two daughters Brenda Sue McClure of Stanley, Aileene M. McNeil and husband James of Gastonia, step daughter Kay Bradshaw and husband Max of Virginia Beach, Va., a brother Graham A Smith of Stanley, two grandchildren Sonya Ward (Ben) and Carrie Stroup (Matt), step grandchildren Allison Rhinehart (Mike) Michelle Bagley, Michael Bradshaw (Angela), numerous great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral service conducted by Reverend Jason Ballard will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly. Interment will follow the service in Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 – 9 p.m. Friday.
