A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Mrs. Sherry Boggs was called to heaven Monday July 15, 2024, after a courageous fight with cholangiocarcinoma.
Sherry was a resident of Gaston County, NC her entire life. Growing up in Bessemer City to parents Dorothy “Dot” Yandle Tarpley and Charles David Tarpley, Sr. She attended Bessemer City High School (Class of 1965). Later in life, she moved to Alexis, NC to create a loving and beautiful home with her husband Robert Morris Boggs of 55 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, S. Courtney Boggs Williams; grandson, Kenneth M. Williams; brother, Jim Tarpley of Bessemer City; and numerous nieces, nephews, cherished friends, and beloved past students.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Charles David Tarpley, Jr.
Sherry began her teaching career at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Belmont, NC, while she attended Sacred Heart College. After several years she transferred to Gaston County Schools where she continued as a fifth-grade teacher, at O.L. Kiser Elementary, and mentor to her peers. She retired after 43 years of devoted teaching.
She was an avid artist, reader, crossstitcher, and cook. She could often be found surrounded by cookbooks in her kitchen creating delicious pound cakes and cheesecakes for family and friends. When she was not in the kitchen, she was illustrating her grandson’s original stories or creating intricate needle point works of art. Caring and giving to others is what made her the happiest.
