Mary Doris Chapman

Mary Doris W. Chapman, passed away peacefully at her home with her daughter by her side on October 18, 2023. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late George Washington Watts and Mozelle Welch Watts. She was a retired elementary school teacher for 40 years in the Stanley Schools. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Stanley, where she served in the Music Ministry, was a Sunday School Teacher, served on the Administrative Board, and co founded the food pantry over 20 years ago. She led the early worship service for many years. She loved to  travel and and loved Tarheel sports. She was involved with Missions both at home and abroad.

She is survived by her daughter Sheila Chapman of the home.

A Service to Celebrate her life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday October 21st at the First United Methodist Church in Stanley with Pastor Brian Elwell officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow in the Stanley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 5481 Hickory Grove Road, Stanley, NC 28164.
