Maxcine Ballard Rickman Crisp, 89, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025 at Trinity Ridge Assisted Living Center in Hickory. She was born in Mecklenburg County, daughter of the late Thad N. and Dora Hall Ballard. She was preceded in death by her first husband Edward Rickman, her second husband Edwin Crisp, and four brothers Kasper Ballard, J. W. Ballard, Thad Hughlon Ballard, and Jerry Ballard.
Maxcine was a loving and beautiful woman who was always there when needed. She also expected you to "tow the line" and stood up for herself and her family. She will be remembered for her cooking, gardening, her love of babies and devotion to family. She set a wonderful example of unconditional love.
Left behind to carry on her legacy include her daughter Janet Somey and husband Hans Kelly, her son Dr. Jeffrey Rickman and wife Kathryn, her sister Linda Medley, grandchildren John Rickman Hall (Jennifer), Jacqueline Rickman Frey (Bryan), Jesse Harris Rickman, William Harris Rickman, her four great grandchildren June Elizabeth Hall, James Edward Hall, Caroline McEwen Frey, Jack Henry Rickman Frey, and her three step children Melissa Smith, Jim Crisp (Susan), and Phil Crisp (Eva), and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday April 12th at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service.
