Melba Jean Norris, 76, passed away peacefully Wednesday December 10, 2025 at home beside her family. Jean was born in Gaston County to the late Walter Stokes and Margaret Tarleton Kellar. Jean was preceded in death by her sweet husband Davey and her brother and sister law Rodney and Pam Norris.
Jean was a humble and selfless lady. She will be missed by so many friends and family who knew her. Jean loved Jesus and her church. She attended Mount Zion Baptist church in Alexis where she played many active roles through the years. She was on the decorating committee, the clean up committee and contributed many recipes to the Original Mt. Zion Baptist cookbooks. She was an amazing cook, and always made sure to have a homecooked supper and a gallon of sweet tea made for her boys. She was always taking care of her family and supporting them. Most days you could find Jean and Davey on a ballfield supporting their favorite player, Brian. Jean's favorite roll came later in life as Mawmaw, with her grandkids. She loved her two grandkids and made a point to spend every Friday night with them over a good dinner. Jean was a remarkable person and caretaker and truly left a wonderful legacy for her family to look up to.
Those left to cherish her memories include their son, Brian and Kerri Norris of Alexis, NC. Her sweet grand girls Averi Elizabeth and Kelsi Rae. Her niece Heather (Ben)Morris and Lily. Her nephew Jason (Tami) and great nephews Wesley Norris, Spencer Norris (Bri) and Chandler (Ally) Norris and great niece Kennedy Lee. She also cherished some great neighbors, which were more like family, Emily and Larry Abernathy of Alexis. The two families raised children together and shared lots of great times.
A service will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to King's Daughters Ministry of Stanley NC. Woodlawn Funeral Home will be caring for the Norris family.
