Michael Kirkland

Mike Kirkland passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at his home. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Claude J. Kirkland and Helen Ball Kirkland. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years Teresa Sigmon Kirkland. He enjoyed fishing, playing basketball in his younger days, the Carolina Tarheels and Washington Redskins and playing cards. 

Mike was a loving husband, dad, pawpaw, and brother. He was the best pawpaw and loved teaching his grandchildren life skills. Mike loved Big!

Mr. Kirkland is survived by his sons: Jason Michael Kirkland (Crystal) and Justin Daniel Kirkland (Becky), his siblings Ed Kirkland, James Kirkland, Ronald Kirkland (Cathy) and Ginny Smith (Harold), his grandchildren Andrew, Blake, Paisley, Elainna, Abigail, Benny, Samuel, Gabriel, and Alyssa, along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Kirkland will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at First Free Will Baptist Church, Stanley. Pastor Darwin Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 at the church. The address of the church is 402 Hovis Road, Stanley, NC 28164.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the youth of South Point Free Will Baptist Church, 297 Gaither Road, Belmont, NC 28012 or to the youth of West Fifth Freewill Baptist Church, 2145 W. Fifth Avenue, Gastonia, NC 28052.
