Miller Garrison Obituary

Luther Miller Garrison went to his heavenly home on June 9th, 2024. He was a hardworking, generous man, who was loved by al who knew him. he was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Peggy S. Garrison and his brother Max Y. Garrison. He is survived by his son Steve Garrison (Wendy), daughter Dotsie Helton (Steve), his grandchildren Travis Garrison and Laura Wood (Jeff), great grandchildren Bailey Garrison, Levi Wood, Cameron Clark and his sister Faye Haithcock of St. Augustine. He is a graduate of Stanley High School, where he met the love of his life, Peggy Shelton Garrison. He was retired from Duke Energy, where he retired from Marshall Steam Station. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Stanley where he served as a deacon and worked countless hours keeping the building in working order. He was a longtime Mason (78 years), Shriner and was a member of the Eastern Star. He was the NC Baptist Men's Volunteer of Year in 1998 and served on their board. He and Peggy were both awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. He also ministered in 43 overseas mission trips (19 different countries), 79 mission trips in the US and countless trips for World Changers and to help restore the NC Baptist Assembly at Ft. Caswell. He was truly blessed with many friends all over the state and country, who always wanted the best for him and always wanted to know how he was in his later years. He was a humble man who never expected recognition, a genuine, dedicated, quietly committed man. The family would like to thank his caregivers, Sara, Christine, Carol, Gail, Debbie and Sedgwick, who took care of him the last days of his life. Mr. Garrison will lie in repose in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Stanley on Friday June 14, 2024, from 5:00pm-6:00pm. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Garrison will begin at 6:00pm and a visitation in the family life center following. The graveside will be at Hillcrest Gardens on Saturday June15 at 11:00am.
