Nancy Hamilton Thomas was born January 3, 1943, daughter of the late Fred R. and Katherine Helms Hamilton. She went to be with her Lord on August 25, 2020. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Thomas; and her son, Shaun Wesley Thomas. Nancy graduated from Belmont High School and the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing. Most of her nursing career was spent at Presbyterian Hospital. In later years, she worked at Brian Center and Covenant Village in Gastonia. Helping others was her passion. Nancy was a long-time member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church. Several moves involved other churches. Over the years she taught GAs, RAs, and Laubauch Literacy and worked in Evangelism Explosion. She also served as Woman's Missionary Union President, served on the Building and Planning Committee, and went on a mission trip to England. Nancy had a mischievous and humorous personality, which will be missed by many.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Chris and his husband, Joe Overcash; her sister, Paulette Duncan; her nephew Brandon Duncan and his wife Karen; two great-nephews, Andrew and Joshua Duncan; and many cousins.
A graveside service to celebrate Nancy's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2020 at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. Pastor Max Pendleton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Friday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly.
