Ozell (Smith) Abernathy

Ozell Smith Abernathy, 91, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late Sandy Lawson Smith and Maggie Jones Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd "Jack" Abernathy; her son, Larry D. Abernathy; her granddaughters, Jennifer Abernathy and Melissa Abernathy; her siblings, Everette L. Smith, Ethel Mills, Emma Rushton, Ruby Bynum, Myrtle Cavender, Fannie Blane, Pauline Rushton, Pete Smith, Clarence Smith, Rob Smith, and Ray Smith.

Mrs. Abernathy is survived by her son, Ronnie Abernathy; her daughter-in-law, Dot Abernathy; her grandchildren, Becki Toole and her husband, Matt; and Michael Abernathy; her great-grandchildren, Zachary Toole, Chase Toole and his wife, Samantha, and Chelsea Toole; and her great great-granddaughter, Amelia Toole.

A graveside service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Abernathy will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. The family will receive friends at the home, 413 King John Circle, Gastonia, NC 28056.
