Reverend Billy Ray Wooten, 80, met his Lord and Saviour on February 10, 2026 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Pink Raymond and Gracie Evelyn Nichols Wooten.
Reverend Wooten was the founder of Redeemed Free Will Baptist Church and was it’s only Pastor for 38 years. He was a wonderful man of God, a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Left behind to carry on his legacy include his wife of almost 63 years Mary Edith Champion Nichols, his daughter Sherry Lynn Wooten, his granddaughter Amber Lynette Aldridge and her husband Clarence Paul Aldridge, Jr., his two brothers Donald Wooten and Tommy Dean Wooten, and his sister Rebecca Wooten.
A service to celebrate the life of Reverend Wooten will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday February 14th in the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, with Reverend Ronnie Bolen, Reverend Wally “Buck” Buchanan, Reverend Clarence Rose and Mr. Eddie Ballard officiating.
