Robert Weeks Obituary

Robert (Bob) Seelye Weeks III, 85, passed away on October 7th in Mount Holly, NC. Bob was born May 16th, 1939, in Boston, MA. Known as Dad, “pop-pop,” and Grandpa Bob. He attended Brookline High and the Trinity-Pawling School before attending the University of Massachusetts. He paused his college career to honorably serve three years in the U. S. Army. After his service, he returned to graduate from the University of Massachusetts. After graduation, he began his career in the insurance industry where he worked for the next 30 years. His career path took him to North Carolina in 1969, and eventually to the Charlotte area where he has lived for the past 50 years. A lifelong athlete, he held the Massachusetts high school boys state track record in the mile, lettered at UMass in both track and soccer, and continued to run throughout most of his life. He completed multiple long-distance races including two marathons in his 40’s. Later in life, he took on the challenge of road and mountain biking, he took annual long distance bike trips with his brothers, completed the 24 hours of Booty, and worked with the Tarheel Trailblazers for several years developing trails in the Mountain Island Lake area. He was a talented artist and wood carver who was a member of the Charlotte Woodcarvers Club and sold his whimsical animals and figurines at craft shows around the Charlotte area for years. He loved his music; he was in a travelling folk band in the Army and has continued to play his guitars and harmonica through his last days. He was always quick to break out a guitar session at family events, Cub Scout campouts, or whenever he felt like it. He also sang and played in the choir at his church, St. Marks Episcopal, in Huntersville. He had a great sense of humor and was always open, friendly and joking with everyone.
Bob is survived by his two brothers, Richard and Peter, former wife Martha Draper and their two sons, Christopher and his wife Lesli; and Michael and his wife Jennifer; his four grandsons, Peyton, Cole, Josh and Noah; and former wife Shirley and her son, Matt Trent. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Jr. and Sally B of Brookline, MA and his brother Stephen of Minneapolis, MN

A memorial service will be held at a future date to be determined by the family.
