Ruby Fisher Obituary

Ruby McGinnis Fisher, age 86, died February 6, 2021 at Robin Johnson House after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

Raised in the Mariposa community of east Lincoln County, Ruby was born November 14, 1934, the daughter of the late Marvin and Laura Mae McGinnis. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers Arthur, Jim and Reid McGinnis and her sisters Fay Bean and Katherine Lewis.

She is survived by her husband Roger Fisher of 63 years and son Mark, brother Gary McGinnis and wife Terry and sister-in-law Brenda McGinnis (Reid) along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Ruby is also survived by her 4-legged companion Zoey who brought her much joy and happiness.

Ruby taught herself to play the piano at age 9. Throughout her life she played for various churches most recently at Faith Baptist Church in Iron Station, North Carolina. One of the joys of her life was participating in the sing-alongs at Stanley Total Living Center playing the old hymns and songs the residents most enjoyed. Anyone who ever heard Ruby play knew they were in the presence of a talented musician.

The family would like to thank Dr. Laura Schrader, Dr. Viranga Patharaja, and Dr. Sanjay Iyer for their untiring efforts to care for Ruby during the final years of her life. They would also like to thank family friend Dr. Rhett Brown for his love, support, and encouragement through the years. Finally, the care and compassion shown by the staff at Robin Johnson House can only be described as truly remarkable. Thank you.

The family will receive friends at the mausoleum chapel of Hillcrest Cemetery, Mt. Holly, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. A Graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider making a contribution in Ruby’s memory to the Parkinson’s Association of the Carolinas, 2101 Sardis Road North, Suite 102A, Charlotte, North Carolina
