Sabra Hovis

Sabra Hovis, 86, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025. She was born in Mount Kisco, NY of the late Tarp and Elma Hall Young. She retired from Gaston County Schools. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Stanley where she dedicated countless hours to the Prayers and Squares Ministry in which she dearly loved. Sabra is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years in marriage, Lawrence C. Hovis.
She is survived by her sons, Jeff and wife Lisa and Scott and wife Kris both from Mt. Holly. Her grandchildren Jacob, Shelby, Heather and Savannah and one great grandchild, Chandler and special friend Marigold Summerlin. She was also survived by two brothers Tarp Young and Jim Young.
The family of Sabra would like to say special thanks to Via Healthcare, Morningside Assisted Living Facilities and Homestead Healthcare. Thank you all for the amazing care that each of your facilities provided. A visitation will be held on the evening of Monday, March 3, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm at First Baptist Church in Stanley 409 Old Mt Holly Rd, Stanley, NC 28164. A graveside service and interment to honor Sabra's life will be on Tuesday March 4, 2025, at 2:00pm at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Stanley Prayers and Squares ministry.
