Sarah (Kirby) Helton

Sarah Kirby Helton passed away September 18, 2026. She was born in Caldwell County N.C. to the late John F. and Lillian B. Kirby. She attended First United Methodist Church on Common Ground in Stanley, and was a retired Gaston County educator. She was a master gardener and avid reader, participating in several book clubs.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband William L. Helton, Jr. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, wonderful neighbors, and lifelong friends from church and education. 

A graveside service to celebrate the life of Sarah Helton will be held at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 26th with Pastor Johnny Norton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Robin Johnson Hospice House, 5005 Shepherds Way, Dallas, NC 28034, First United Methodist Church at Common Ground, 5481 Hickory Grove Road, Stanley, NC 28164, or Least of these Carolinas, 1000 South Myrtle School Road, Gastonia, NC 28052 (to benefit children in Gaston County).
