Shirley Simon Bishop, 78, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late Saad Simon and Athalene Wackym Simon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, George Simon. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Gastonia.
Mrs. Bishop was a graduate of the former Ashley High School and Sacred Heart College and spent 31 years as a 4th grade teacher at North Belmont Elementary School. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her granddaughter. She enjoyed trips to the beach.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jerry Keith Bishop; her daughter, Jennifer Rhyne (Dale); her granddaughter, Madison Cogdill (Anson); her sister-in-law, Virginia Simon; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and siblings through marriage; as well as many cherished friends, whom she considered family.
A memorial service for Mrs. Bishop will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2:00pm in the Woodlawn Chapel of Mount Holly. A visitation and light refreshment will be served immediately after service at the Grand Hall 400 E Central Ave
