Mrs. Sudie Ann Joyce York, 76, was surrounded by her loving family when she stepped into her heavenly home on Monday, July 31, 2023.
Sudie was born to Ethel and Bernard Joyce in Los Angeles, California on April 11, 1947. She moved to Charlotte as a child where she grew up and graduated from West Mecklenburg High School.
Sudie worked in the foodservice industry for many years as a Restaurant Manager for The Hungry Fisherman and then Shoney’s. She also worked as a Tupperware Consultant where she led her team called “The Honeymooners” to reach top sales within the company for several years.
Sudie always had a positive outlook on life, regardless of the situation. She would often say “This too shall pass”. Her positivity was the source of her never-ending strength and was an inspiration to so many in her life. Cheerfulness and resilience were fruits of the spirit that were hard won in her life. Sudie had a great personality - sweet, sassy and very funny. She didn’t let the “small” things get in the way of her happiness. She absolutely adored her beloved husband, Jerry. After 58 years of marriage, their love only grew stronger. The ONLY notable time her positivity diminished was after his death in June. They both loved watching the beautiful birds outside their home and Sudie was doing just that as she took her last breath. We can only imagine the joy when they reunited at the gates of Heaven.
Sudie is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jerry York. Mother and father, Ethel and Bernard Joyce, mother and father-in-law, Truman and Gladys Henderson. Sisters, Patricia Alexander and Jean Howell, brother-in-law, Barry Friday.
Left to cherish Sudie’s memory are her 3 children, Shana (John) Biggerstaff, Chris York and Carrie Cox, Patricia (Randy) Williams. Grandchildren, Johnathan Biggerstaff, Emily Biggerstaff, Sarah York, Brandon Ritter, Corey York, Caroline York, Samantha Williams, Mick Williams, Cheyanne Cox and Kelsey Cox. Brother-in-law Mo (Linda) York. Sister-in-law, Sharon Friday. Nieces, Lisa (Thed) Jacobs, Stephanie and Caitlyn Alexander. Nephew, Craig Friday and Lauren Milton. Several cousins and the beloved family dog, Bandit.
