Thomas Jerry Gibson, 89, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. He was born in Lincoln County, son of the late Thomas Lewis Gibson and Bertha Tucker Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Chris Gibson, and his sisters, Janet G. Moore and Rebecca G. Hartness. Mr. Gibson was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a medical corpsman.
Mr. Gibson graduated from Belmont High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Stanley where he served as a Deacon and attended a number of mission trips with the NC Baptist Men, both at home and abroad. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors for Gaston Memorial Hospital (CaroMont Regional Medical Center). He enjoyed attending car shows and appreciated vintage autos, both working on them and occasionally racing them. He liked to fish and occasionally hunt. Riding his tractor and working on his farm were his favorite pastimes, when he wasn't out piddling in his barn.
Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife of 68 years, Toni Queen Gibson; his daughter, Dana Gibson Davidson (Kevin), his granddaughter, Molly Gibson Wieczorek (Dan); his brother-in-law, Vance Hartness; a number of nieces and nephews, and his lifelong friend, Randolph Faile.
A private family burial, with military honors, is scheduled for Mr. Gibson. A public celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
