Vinson Eugene Benfield

Vinson Eugene Benfield of Stanley, North Carolina, was called home to be with his Lord on Monday, May 24, 2021, at the age of 84. He was born in Gaston County on March 14, 1937 to the late John Benfield, Sr. and Grace Poteat Benfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Doris Davis Benfield, as well as his brothers, John Benfield, Jr. and Clyde Benfield.  He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960, and was awarded the distinction of serving in the United Nations Honor Guard as an E-3 Airman First Class. He was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California, and later served in South Korea.  Vinson was a master welder and retired from International Dyeing Equipment in Stanley, and previously worked for Gaston County Dye Machine Company, American Efird, and Woodlawn Dyeing and Finishing. He was also a member at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Gastonia. Most knowingly, he was a humble and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Jim Benfield and his wife Julia, Karen Benfield Cauthen, and David Benfield and his wife Shellie; grandchildren, Travis Benfield and his wife Heather, Nathan Benfield and his wife Regina, Katie Cauthen and her fiance Derek Andre, Cody Cauthen, Meghan Yarbro and her husband Josh, and Josh Benfield; great-grandchildren, John Paul Benfield, Claire Benfield, and Sarah Jane Benfield; his sister Libby Chaney and her husband Dean; and his brother-in-law Bobby Davis and his wife Rachel.  A graveside service to celebrate his life, with full military honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly. The Rev. Dr. Kendell Cameron will officiate. The family will greet guests after the service at the cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Gaston County Honor Guard at 2340 Gaines Avenue, Gastonia, NC, 28054.
