Mr. Bobby G. Bishop, 84, of 116 Oak Trail, passed away on March 21, 2018. Bobby is now at home with his Lord and Savior. He was born August 9, 1933 in Mount Holly, son of the late William Wylie Bishop and Lillian Agnes Bishop of Belmont. Bob was retired from the U.S. Air Force and Duke Energy Company. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Joyce Bone Bishop. Betty was the love of Bob's life. She accompanied and supported him on many of his military assignments. Bob is also survived by one sister, Glenda Garrett and her husband Larry Garrett, Sr. of Charlotte; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his loving canine companion Gigi. While serving in the military, he was an airborne radio operator and flew on the C-119 cargo aircraft throughout Europe, Africa, and a mission to Iran. He later served as an air traffic control radar technician serving at various stateside and overseas locations. The last five years of military service, he was assigned to Headquarters Air Force Communications Service where he held daily briefings for the commanding General, on the status of worldwide radar facilities. He was named Air Force Outstanding Airman of the Month at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio, and nominated as Air Force Outstanding Airman of the Year. During his career at Duke Energy, he was assigned to the general office, and his duties were in Budget and Accounting for the general office, and the Fossil and Nuclear stations. Later, due to a separation of the Fossil and Nuclear facilities, he was given the task as supervisor of Nuclear Office Services and assisted in the budget for the Vice President and his staff. He retired from Duke Energy in 1989. Bob was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church in Mt. Holly, where he served in the choir, as a deacon, and as an assistant treasurer. He belonged to the American Legion Post 144 in Belmont. The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly beginning at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, also at the funeral home, officiated by the Reverend Jerry Stanfield and Pastor Brian Horrell. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.
