Stanley

Charles Taylor Black, 86, died December 23, 2018 at his home. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Hunter A. and Katherine Leagan Black, and was preceded in death by a brother Raymond Black. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Stanley, where he served as a deacon and was the volunteer maintenance man for many years. He was a member of Stanley Masonic Lodge #713 A.F. & A.M., and was the first Cub Scout Leader of Pack 49 in Stanley. He was a very special man who loved his family and his church. He retired from Wix Corporation in Gastonia.

Survivors include his wife Janet Stutzman Black, three sons Charles T. Black Jr. and wife Robin of Easley, SC, Kenneth D. Black and wife Glenda of Mount Holly, Thomas D. Black and wife Crystal of Stanley, a daughter Kathy B. White and husband William of Weddington; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 due soon.

Funeral services conducted by Reverend Jason Ballard and Reverend Dr. Tony Fulbright will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Stanley. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 noon – 2:00 p.m. Interment with military and masonic honors will follow in Hillcrest Gardens. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO box 490, Stanley NC 28164 or Hospice of Gaston County, PO box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28053.
