Derrick "Smiley" Patton Whitesides, 45, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018. He was born in Gaston County, son of Reginald Dean and Doris Barton Whitesides. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Frank and Edith Stone; great-grandparents, Gertrude Watts and Sadie Pearl Gosnell; an uncle, Steve Crisp; uncle and aunt, Dennis and Linda Whitesides; great-aunt, JoAnn Perkins; and cousin, Caleb Crisp.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Regina King and her husband, Caleb; grandmother, Myrtle Crisp; nieces and nephew, Chloe King, Journey King, and Parker King; step-children, Preston and Raelyn Dockery; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Whitesides will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly with Pastor Eddie McGinnis officiating.
